As an editor of Clamor, UWB’s Literary and Arts Journal, part of my responsibility was coordinating the design of promotional material. Among those projects included designing a new web banner used for Clamor’s Submittable site, the web application used to collect and review submissions from contributors. Communicating through Discord, my team and I discussed creating different designs using Canva. After creating each of our own designs, we shared amongst each other and the rest of the editorial board for feedback. It was agreed upon that the background created by one of my teammates should be combined with the font I used for my design. After putting together the final draft, I sent the finished design to the team responsible for the website and Submittable.
I included this piece in my portfolio because it illustrates my ability to collaborate and coordinate with a team on design. As someone interested in pursuing a field in illustration and design, I am happy to provide an example of the different types of designs I have created or contributed to during my academic journey.

Another project I facilitated as an editor of Clamor, UWB’s Literary and Arts Journal, was designing a flyer that informs the UW Bothell campus and Bothell community that they can submit creative writing, visual art, audio & video, and collaborative work. My team and I discussed creating different designs using Canva. After creating each of our own designs, we shared amongst each other and the rest of the editorial board for feedback. After receiving feedback from the rest of the editorial board, we collaborated on making any necessary revisions. I played a huge role in including the necessary information such as the links to Clamor's website and submission page, and contact information, as well as helping in organizing the layout of the final draft in a way that is simple and presentable. After putting together the final draft, I sent the poster to the team responsible for the website and Submittable.
I included this poster in my portfolio because while my initial design was rejected, this piece illustrates my ability to collaborate and coordinate with a team on creating graphic designs for a client, going through trial and error, and meeting deadlines. As someone interested in pursuing a field in illustration and design, I am happy to provide an example of the different types of designs I have created or contributed to during my academic journey.

Programs Used: Adobe InDesign
In my 3rd and final quarter of Clamor, the Design Team was responsible for the design and layout of the print version of Clamor’s 2024 Literary and Arts Journal using Adobe InDesign. As point person for the Design Team, it was my responsibility to assign 70 pieces of creative writing and visual art for a team of 11 editors to create a page layout using templates provided by our instructor. Effective communication was a crucial element for progress and success, as understanding each members’ abilities and availability determined the number of pieces I would assign each editor. Communication also played an important role during the proofreading process, as we would make suggestions, and point out any mistakes or revisions that may have been missed. One major challenge I faced during this project was trying to accommodate all of my team member’s access needs, as not everyone had access to or was familiar with using Adobe. To that end, I would check in with each of my group members individually to check-in on their progress and help those who need guidance using InDesign: how to place files into InDesign, where to save and export their work, what fonts to use. By listening to my peers, understanding their strengths and limitations, and working together through trial and error, we were able to progress in creating the design and layout of the 18th print edition of Clamor, a task I could not imagine achieving individually.
This project was perhaps one of the most definitive and ambitious projects I have completed. Designing the print edition of the 2024 Clamor journal allowed me to refamiliarize myself with Adobe InDesign, working through trial and error in including the accepted pieces in the print journal in a format that is both readable and presentable. This project also heavily emphasizes my ability to collaborate in a team of different backgrounds, experiences, and skills in completing a major project. This project also demonstrates my abilities in project management. Coordinating a team by communicating effectively and respectfully, ensuring everyone has a voice to be heard, and can contribute in some way. I hope that my experience in collaboration and shared leadership will be beneficial to future careers that would require me to work with others in designing a creative project.
